When the financial crisis began, Lippmann worked at Deutsche Bank as global head of asset-backed securities (ABS) and collateralized debt obligations (CDO). As a child, Lippmann lived in New York City, before attending the University of Pennsylvania to study economics and English.
His first position at Credit Suisse was as head of ABS and CDO trading, before he moved to Deutsche Bank. During his time there, he traded ABS (asset-based) and RMBS (residential mortgage-backed securities) that weren’t investment grade. Since 2003, he has been responsible for the global trading of ABS and CDOs.

He joined Fred Brettschneider’s hedge fund in April 2010 after leaving Deutsch Bank.
